No Well Worn Paths
Terry Virgo

Reviewed by Jon Beardon (Wellspring Family Church, Dereham Norfolk)

"Newfrontiers is 'an international family of churches on a mission together' and, speaking for myself, I thank God for the privilege of being part of such an vibrant family. Maybe you are like me, though, in wanting to know something of how a group has gathered together. What mix of influences have led to where they are today? No Well Worn Paths tells the story of Terry Virgo who leads the Newfrontiers family of churches. His story weaves the history of Newfrontiers into the wider picture of the fresh move of the Spirit of God that began in the 1970s and continues today. Along the way the reader learns about the origins of the restoration movement which Newfrontiers would claim to be part of. Key prophetic words over Newfrontiers mingle with biblical convictions about church, ministry, mission, leadership and other contentious subjects as well. All in all, the book is inspiring on a personal level, and as a personal reflection of what God has been doing by his Spirit in the churches in recent decades, but more than that it acts as a thorough introduction to Newfrontiers. I've found myself reading it twice so far!"

From the Inside Out: a grace filled life
Mike Betts

Reviewed by Phil Stoddart

"Many books have been written on the abundant provision of God's grace, but it is rare to find one that shows how such liberating knowledge should work out in our Christian lives. Mike Betts gives both the theory and the application! Written in short chapters and a style that is easy to understand, Mike makes plain the message of grace using everyday examples. Confusion as to our standing with God, even when we do wrong as Christians, is cleared up, as is uncertainty over God's standards and whether they have changed because of the Cross. By the end of the first half of the book, the reader is left in no doubt as to the wonders of grace and the freedom it brings. The second half is where the application starts: how can grace help me to pray and read the Bible more effectively? What role does grace play in receiving and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit? Chapters on `Grace to give and receive' and `Grace to grow in community' are particularly helpful. The latter underlines the importance of belonging to a local church and to work through relationships rather than giving up on them. Finally, Mike ends up with a revealing insight into how grace has shaped his life and helped him to persevere through struggles and to grow in ministry, and more importantly, relationship with God. Whether someone is just starting out or has been a Christian for many years, this book is not only inspirational, but serves as a practical guide for leading a grace-filled life."
